Walt Farrell is Vice President of Community and Economic Development for Georgia Power. In this role, Walt leads the team that is responsible for recruiting new business to Georgia, as well as supporting local and statewide initiatives that promote community development. Additional areas of focus for his group include workforce development and education, marketing, data analysis including modeling and visualization, and engineering with an emphasis on site analysis technologies.

Walt is no stranger to business recruitment across the great state of Georgia. In his previous role as Manager of Statewide Economic Development for Georgia Power, Walt was responsible for all business recruitment and attraction efforts to support new business growth in Georgia. 

Before joining Georgia Power in 2015, Walt served as a Director of the Advanced Manufacturing team at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD). He was responsible for recruiting domestic and international companies to Georgia, leading tax incentive negotiations on Georgia’s behalf, and business recruitment efforts. He was also responsible for the Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) Program, the state’s industrial site certification process while working at the state agency. Prior to his work with GDEcD, Walt worked in Economic Development for both Electric Cities of Georgia and MEAG Power.

Walt currently serves as the Chairman of the Georgia Lottery Corporation’s Board of Directors and serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Leadership Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association and Working Partner for the Georgia Allies. Walt is a graduate of the 2015 Leadership Georgia class and Young Game Changers class of 2017.

Walt holds a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Marketing from Clemson University. He and his wife, Emily, reside in Atlanta with their three daughters, Harper, Lucy, and Mae.
