Connect to Georgia
Guests are welcomed to the Georgia Experience Center lobby with a view of the diverse regions that make our state great.
"The Georgia Connection Series" created by mural artist, Michael Jones, is inspired by the five geographic regions of Georgia: Appalachian Plateau, Valley Ridge, Blue Ridge, The Piedmont, and Coastal Plain.
Each canvas highlights landmarks and features unique to each region, showcasing the reasons why individuals choose these areas to live or build a business. The variety of natural and manmade features also contribute to Georgia’s acclaim as a leading destination for film.
Explore Georgia's Regions
The North Georgia mural highlights the crisp air and adventure that awaits you in this region which stretches along the Blue Ridge mountains and many of Georgia's farmlands. Artwork viewers may imagine taking a careful step on the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge as they make their way down to a riverbed to test their locally crafted fly-fishing rod. This natural beauty inspires more than adventure as the region is home to sculptures, painters, and winemaking enthusiasts too.
The Piedmont Region mural includes the stretch from Atlanta to Augusta, featuring Plant Vogtle, the largest generator of carbon free energy in the country, and Atlanta’s bustling office and residential districts. Viewers can imagine themselves walking through the region’s historic streets home to Martin Luther King Jr.’s Baptist Church or taking the cobblestone path to cross Augusta’s Riverwalk Bridge by the waterfront train depot.
The West Georgia mural, also in the Piedmont region, showcases Georgia’s defense industry, including Fort Benning in Columbus. West Georgia is also home to Providence Canyon, Georgia’s own little Grand Canyon, and Columbus’s unique whitewater recreation provided by the Chattahoochee River and Georgia Power’s Chattahoochee Hydro Group. One of the area’s oldest and largest mills and dams, the Eagle and Phenix Mills, has now been repurposed as a multi-use development.
The Coastal Plain is anchored by natural wonders like the Okefenokee Swamp and Georgia’s 14 barrier islands, including Jekyll Island, Sea Island, and Tybee Island. Cable-strayed bridges and light houses guide businesses and residents to the many opportunities generated by the Georgia Ports Authority. The region is a critical importer of more than tourists, consistently recognized for the port's growth in both container shipments and roll-on/roll-off vehicles.
The South Georgia area is “Georgia’s Blueberry Capital” but boasts many of the state’s agriculture products that are enjoyed globally. Rural main streets are a keystone to Georgia’s roots, while investments in entrepreneurship are sprouting innovation in the agriculture industry and beyond.
