Lonnie Smallwood is the Metro West Community Development Manager for Georgia Power – representing a region including Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Forsyth, and Paulding Counties. Lonnie partners with state, regional, and local officials to develop strategies, identify properties, retain and expand business, and facilitate opportunities for targeted economic growth throughout the region.
Prior to joining Georgia Power, Lonnie spent ten years working as a statewide industrial project manager for Electric Cities of Georgia and Georgia EMC, partnering with the Georgia Department of Economic Development to recruit new business to the state. In this role, Lonnie was directly involved in project locations for companies such as Beretta, GE, Georgia Pacific, Owens Corning, UPS, and Wayfair.
In addition, Lonnie worked for seven years in politics, serving as a Middle Georgia Field Director for Governor Sonny Perdue, Legislative Liaison for Lt. Governor Casey Cagle, and as a public affairs consultant for several Fortune 500 companies.
A Georgia native, Lonnie lives in Atlanta, and is a graduate of The University of Georgia with a degree in Political Science with an emphasis on International Affairs. In his free time, he nurtures a love/hate relationship with golf, and enjoys playing guitar.
